Dave and I just had a really good laugh going through some pictures. Zach always makes us laugh. He was so disgusted that Ali had to wait in line for the fairies at Disneyland. He did not want to be there and participate in this nonsense.

Our Karate Kid
Zach started karate a few months ago and he absolutely loves it. He asks every day, "Do I have karate tomorrow"? We are so happy that he has found something that he enjoys so much.

On May 30th, Zach earned his White Belt with a Yellow Stripe.
There are three rules they have to abide by:
1 - Obey your parents
2 - Keep your room clean
3 - No Fighting
For the first little while he would say #1 Disobey your parents. He didn't even realize what he was saying. It was pretty funny.
#3 he would say, don't fight your sister.
We love you Zach!! Keep up the good work.

Movie Theater Field Trip
Zach had another fun field trip at school.
Bedtime stories and a tour of the movie theater. I was kind of like a little date with him.
We had fun together the whole afternoon.
The movie theater gave them a strip of film. 12 squares is one second.

They are weapons!
I came down to the kitchen and every action figure that Zach could find was holding a new weapon he discovered. He thought that was pretty cool. I didn't say anything, just smiled. He was being inventive. Notice how his action figures don't miss out on anything, even if they are missing a limb. Must be those cotton swap light sabers. We have and armless power ranger, a legless batman, but they don't miss a beat with Zach.
A little bit later I came back into the room and the whole box of cotton swabs was dumped out on the couch....yes, more weapons were needed.

Mama's Boy!!!
Zach is such a mama's boy! I need to enjoy it now because it is already starting to change to some degree. He already won't kiss me in front of someone else. He doesn't want anyone to see!!! AND he is 5 for PETE's SAKE!
To give an example of this, which I have talked about before.....
I can not take him to his primary class at church, or to preschool, or anywhere else for that matter that I need to leave him for a period of time. Whether it be for 30 minutes or 5 minutes he throws a fit.
Dave was sick yesterday and wasn't able to attend church with us. He usually takes him to his primary class just because he will go just fine, well...usually will go just fine. I took him to primary (singing time), and he would not stay. Cling'd onto me and cried. I ended up taking him outside and telling him that if he didn't go without whining and trouble then he wouldn't be able to play the Wii. Thinking that would fix the problem. I took him back in and this time stood behind the chair I was putting him in so he couldn't grab me. Picked him up and into the chair and quickly walked out while he cried. I walked by the room a few minutes later just to check on the progress. His nice teacher was now sitting by him and cute Michelle B. was rubbing his back. I am so happy to have people that will step in and comfort him to make being the mom easier on me. He loved primary class and was really happy afterward. It is just the initial departure that is the pain for him (and me).
After church he asked me if he could play the Wii. I said well I don't know, you didn't do very well going to class today. He started to sob, "WELL MOM - I JUST DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE YOU!!!" as my heart melts a little. I said OK well give me a kiss - HA! Have to get those every chance I can now. I told him that he needed to try harder next week and not have a melt down when it was time for class.
So it was later in the evening and he asked again if he could play the Wii. I said do you think you should be able to play. Remember how you acted at church today.
In this little high voice a little bit whining and crying he says.....
OH, OKAY MOM, JUST GROUND ME. JUST GROUND ME MOM.
I of course had to scoop him up and give him some lovin! That is when we got to explain to dad what happened.
Dave and I just laughed together, we couldn't let him know how cute we thought is was.
And one good thing, Zach said he would try to be better when I take him somewhere. I am just glad that he is still MAMA's BOY!!!!!

Fire Safety and Fun Field Trip
Zach had a fun field trip with school to the fire station.
I loved watching all the kids and their fascination at the fire station. The fireman opened up every compartment in the fire truck for them to check it out. They were also able to go through one side and come out the other.

Zach - Back to School
Monday, September 8th

Well the morning started out great. Zach was so excited to go back to school. I don't know what it is with him and me but as soon as we get to school his mood totally changes. He turns into a stinker! ...and I mean a stinker.
He clings to me, throws a fit and just won't cooperate at all. I tried to get some cute pictures of him and his first day. Well you see how that turned out.
Hiding behind the door

I also had a little bit of a melt down myself. I think it was a mixture of things, being a working mom and wishing I could do the simple every day things that mom's do. Like picking your kid up from school...seeing how their day is first hand instead of asking hours later and getting the same response every day...I DON'T KNOW. Stressing out of how to get him to school, pick him up and to the daycare too and not being in trouble with work or working til 8:00 pm. I am sure being a little emotional about Grandma B didn't help the situation either. I cried to Miss Lisa when I was leaving.
Then cried to Megan like a boob when I went to pick Zach up that day, and even more so when she told me with a smile and cheerful grin that she was more than happy to help me out with whatever. She is my angel. She is going to pick Zach up at daycare every school day and then take him back there after school so I can go to work earlier and have a better schedule. I didn't get off work last year until 7:00 at night because I had to take Zach to school every day. Now I might be able to get dinner on the table before 9:00 and have homework and violin practice completed without pulling my hair out. Talk about flopping into bed ready to die. I owe Megan BIG TIME!
After school was a different story....I walked with Lexi to pick him up and he was all smiles and happy.

Oh Zachary
Zach is really addicted to the computer and the games on PBS Kids, Nick Jr, Disney.com etc. I have a hard time getting him to stop EVERY DAY! Well the other night it was getting late and he kept playing and playing. I would say, Zach last game, when that one it over you need to stop. Well he would pretend the game wasn't over yet and start a new one.
Finally I just had to shut down the computer, with his disapproval. He cried and cried. I took him to the couch and sat him on my lap. I started to talk to him telling him that he needed to listen to dad and I when we were asking him to do something. He was acting like he wasn't paying much attention to me, so I asked him. Zach, do you understand what I am telling you? He said, I can't hear you. I said well do you know what I am trying to tell you, if you look at the computer all day long and don't do anything else you aren't going to be healthy and your eyes might fall out of your head. He said, I can't hear you. By this time, I understood what he was doing. I said you can't hear me? He said "NO"!! So I said well maybe you need to go and sit in time out until you can hear me again.
Time out for Zach is the ultimate torture. So I carried him over to a chair in the kitchen, and of course he fought me every second. I told him to sit there and not move. He weep'd and wailed for a bit. After he stopped crying I walked over and asked him, CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? (like Verizon) He said no. I said OK and walked away. He turned around and in his whinny voice, said mom, OK I can hear you now. So we had a little talk about listening and the computer. For the last 4 days or so, he has been much better when you ask him to stop. So for now it seems to have worked. LOL kids!! crack me up. Dave was in the living room trying not to laugh out loud during all this. That is the hard part, you don't want them to know you think it is funny or you get the wrong result.

Zach and His Swords
Zach loves swords, he is always challenging us to a duel of some kind. He can't die though, he is a robot. You just know you are going to lose every time because of some quirky thing he comes up with.
Zach was broken hearted after Dave retrieved it, since it had been in the sun and weather
for a month the colored handle was now silver, and the silver blade was turning black as the silver paint is flaking off. He cried for quite some time. He said he didn't want a black ugly sword, as I tried to convince him that a black sword is cool. After a little bit he came up to me and said, "mom, I am really really going to miss this sword, really a lot" and walked over and put it in the garbage can. Then he went and sat on Dave's lap and pouted for a bit.

Well about a month and a 1/2 ago he was playing at our neighbor's house, I am not sure how it happened or what he was doing but he threw a sword up in the air and it landed on the neighbors roof. It then slid down into the rain gutter so you couldn't see it. He came home so distraught about losing his sword. We told him we would get it back. Dave and I forgot about it for awhile, but not Zach. He reminded us all
the time and we just never got the ladder out to go and get it.
the time and we just never got the ladder out to go and get it. Zach reminded Dave again Sunday morning about his sword. Dave told him that if he saw Aaron at church he would ask him if he could get it down. Ali saw Aaron first and rambled on to him about something lost on his roof...when Aaron saw Dave he asked him what Ali was talking about. Dave reminded him about the sword which Zach had lost while playing with Matthew. Aaron had forgotten about it too. After church Dave went over and retrieved the sword from the rain gutter.

Dave and I giggled about it all night. Zach cracks us up.

Here he is hiding behind the couch, wanted to be sad in private.

No More Junk Food
Zachary has been saying the funniest things lately. I just need to write them down so I don't forget what he has been saying.
My mom was with me in the car and we were on our way to the Walk for Autism for our cute friend Riley. Zach said to my mom... "Grandma, I can't eat anymore junk food" "No more for me". My mom replied, okay Zach, I will make sure I only give you healthy food. He thought for a 1/2 a second and said, "Well Grandma, I think I can have ONE TREAT". Not entirely ready to give up all junk. Then when we did get to the walk for autism...he wanted 2 of everything they had. Ice Cream, Chocolate Milk, Candy you name it...he wanted it. Cracks me up, I reminded him of no more junk food that he just talked about. He just smiled.
He has been so worried about who is going to marry him the last few weeks. Almost in tears because of it. I told him that he has a long time to find a nice girl and he seemed to be okay after that. A few days later he said that he just wanted to marry Ali. I explained to him that he can't because she is his sister. He said but I love her, and started to cry. I hope that the friendship and love that Ali and Zach have for each other will always be there like it is now.
Yesterday he had a follow up doctor's appointment to check how is mouth is healing after his pretty bad mouth injury that happened right when my girls night out party was starting last Friday. On the way home we needed to stop at Target for one thing. I told him to look for my wedding ring on the ground as we walked in the store. On our way out he squatted down behind each car we passed to look under it for my ring. He said, nope mom not under that one each time. Then told me, I am sad we can't find your ring, and gave me a big hug.
He had to buy Miss Lisa these metal bracelets while we were at Kohl's. I am sure she will be just thrilled to wear them as they are so beautiful (think of a four year old's thoughts of what is beautiful). He wouldn't take no for an answer. Who knows maybe one day she will wear them to church! HA!
Today he said that Carlin is a tale taddler instead of a Tattle teller.
There is one more funny thing, I can't think of it right this minute, so I will have to correct this post when I think of it.
