10 Blissful Years

Today is our 10th anniversary! Happy Anniversary Babe! Sometimes it doesn't feel that long at all, like it was just yesterday that I was in a wedding dress and being fussed over by my sisters and friends.

Dave's mom was in Young Woman's with me at church after I returned home from my mission. She asked me one day if I would go out with her son. I said yes, of course. I had people ask me that all the time, and I never got a phone call from anyone. It took a few days and I think he called a couple times and never left a message on the answering machine. My mom and dad didn't have caller ID at the time. We left to go out of town and I changed the answering machine to say, you have reached the Colby's please leave a message, and if this is Dave leave your number so I can call you back. Well sure enough, when we returned home there was a message from him with his phone number. I called him back. We talked on the phone for 2 hours. We had our first date on a Wednesday night. On Tuesday night before our date I did a candy bar story on poster board. His mom drove me to his house and I put it on his porch. It said things like..I just wanted to break the ice before our first date (ice breaker gum). I love to fish (sweedish fish) on streams down (rocky roads) but you have to touch the worms if we ever do that (gummy worms). Anyway, that was really fun. Our first date we went to Chili's for dinner, it was a pretty good date, and we had a nice time. We had a lot in common. We dated a little and then it started to be at least once a week, then even more frequent. I had went on another blind date while I was dating him, my grandma was getting her hair done at the salon and there was another lady there, she was also a grandma. She had a grandson that had just returned from his mission also. He served in Asia somewhere, I believe. My grandma gave his grandma my phone number and he called me. We went out once and it was awful. No chemistry at all and just a waste of time. Well, that date really helped me to decide about Dave too. I am thankful to my grandma for making that move cause I wasn't sure what to do.

One of our dates

We were engaged on June 14, 1998

We were married on September 12th, 1998 at 7:00am in the Salt Lake Temple.

When I arrived at the temple Dave looked like he was going to bolt on me. I was really worried because of the look on his face. I asked him what was wrong and he said I will tell you later. After our wedding ceremony we had about and hour and a half to kill before our wedding breakfast get together. We decided to go to Liberty Park and sit on a bench and talk while we passed the time. Plus we wanted to be the last one's to show up to the breakfast/luncheon. That is when he told me about his night the night before. I had left his house around midnight/1:00 because we were packing for our honeymoon cruise. After I left he had an incident with his neighbor and never went to bed. So he was up all night. So that was why he looked so awful when I arrived at the temple. Man he had me worried, I thought he had cold feet and was bailing on me.
By the end of our reception that night he was exhausted and beat and I found out that I had married a grizzly bear that snored LOUD!. It was probably even extra loud since he was passed out.

We had a great honeymoon, a 7 day Texaribbean cruise, and I wish we could do another one. We went to Calica (near Cancun), Mexico/ Cozumel, Mexico/Roatan, Honduras. We were able to visit the Mayan ruins in Tulum. That was really awesome and amazing.

We celebrated our first wedding anniversary in Heber, Utah and rode the Heber Valley Railroad. Growing up it was called the Heber Creeper.

2 years later we had a bouncing baby girl. She has him wrapped around her finger.

Dave loves to share his passions with his family.

And take a nap or two with the kids. (I love the pictures that I have like this)

He loves Zachary

And Alicyn

He loves one of my very favorite places, which I am so grateful for! DISNEYLAND

His vice is Pepsi, and he usually has an open can to sip on in the fridge...or one chilling in the freezer...yes we have had some explosions and I must admit that they are not always his fault. I did it once and forgot, then blamed him.

He loves his wife....I hope. ;) *wink wink*

Dave is a good husband and father. I am happy that he is my soul mate and that we can share our lives together. I am also happy for Ali and Zach and that they are in our family. What treasures they are and a huge joy!
Here's hoping to many, many more years of BLISS!!!
I love you!
